What causes Restless Legs Syndrome?
About 1 in 10 people will develop a degree of Restless Legs Syndrome at some point of their life.
The causes like the symptoms are varied. But, if you first had this condition when you were young the symptoms can get worse as you get older.
It could be that there is an imbalance of chemicals in the brain, especially one called dopamine. As with many conditions this can run in families.
The main causes are:
- Lack of iron, as a side effect to some drugs such as antidepressants, antihistamines and as a symptom of underlying conditions such as diabetes.
