Managing Cholesterol
Cholesterol is a fat that is made in the liver from the fatty foods that we eat. It is an important substance and is carried in the bloodstream, because you need a certain amount of cholesterol to keep healthy.
When you have a blood test for Cholesterol your readings are made up of LDL which is sometimes referred to as ‘bad’ cholesterol because if this reading is too high it can bring on cardiovascular problems. The second reading is HDL which sometimes referred to as ‘good’ cholesterol because it can be preventative.
The relative amount of HDL to LDL is more important than total cholesterol .The problems arise when your cholesterol count goes above 5.0 with the LDL count being too high.
