Why is it important to keep an eye on it?
Because a high reading could mean that you may have a higher risk of having a heart attack or stroke.
Everyone approaching middle age should have a Cholesterol blood test. Some supermarkets and chemists offer this service – it is quick, painless and easy. If the reading is higher than acceptable then the practioner will advise a visit to your GP. Or you could ask your GP but usually they will only offer the test if there are any other contributing factors such as a family history of heart trouble.
