What are Enlarged Pores?
Everyone has pores - they play an important role in the health of your skin.
You release sweat through them to regulate your body’s temperature and sebum into the hair follicle pore to moisturise the skin (and hair).
Enlarged Pores are exactly that – they are in (and on) your face and can be small, medium or large just like us.
An Enlarged Pore is visible and looks like a very small dip in the skin. This is the opening of the pore.
At the base of every pore is a hair follicle which is located deep in the dermis layer of the skin. Mid way is the sebaceous gland and this gland empties sebum into the follicle shaft eventually ending up on the surface. Have a look at our explanation of the 7 layers of your skin. Explanation of the skin.
Once you have large pores, unfortunately there is no reverse to smaller pores. However, there are ways to minimise the appearance.
And, there is a benefit!! Yes – if you have enlarged pores then most probably you have an oily skin. So, glass half full, your skin will age slower and you will have fewer wrinkles than your dry skinned sisters.
