Who can have a Botox Treatment?
Best to take advice from a reputable cosmetic surgeon as in fact there is very little legislation
Before starting any injectable treatment, tell your doctor or cosmetic surgeon if you have any concerns or health problems such as (please note this is not an exhaustive list just a bit of guidance):
- Have a neurological disorder
- Have any condition that affects your nerves and muscles
- If you are breastfeeding
- Planning pregnancy or think you might be pregnant
- Have an infection anywhere near Botox will be administered
- Have allergic reactions to anything
- Taking certain medication – so tell the doctor / cosmetic surgeon everything you can
If fact you should be asked for a full rundown of your health history and if you’re not, then you’re in the wrong hands.
Up until 2010 there was no intervention from Health Authorities and no regulations for the administration of Botox and considering that in the UK alone there are more than 5,000 providers this is quite worrying.
In 2010 the Government backed a new register for providers of injectable cosmetic procedures that is to be voluntary and those who meet all the standards will receive a quality assurance mark so look out for that. But unfortunately it will be industry self regulating by the Injectable providers and so still perfect for those rogue traders to continue with their unsafe administration so be wary.
